Our latest paper with title "Molecular Mechanisms of Macular Degeneration Associated with the Complement Factor H Y402H Mutation", by Reed Harrison and Dimitrios Morikis, is now published online in Biophysical Journal. DOI: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.bpj.2018.12.007. The paper proposes a novel mechanism for the involvement of a major polymorphism of the complement system in age-related macular degeneration. This is the Y402H polymorphism of Factor H, the major regulator of the complement system. Despite many previous studies and much speculation, the role of Y402H polymorphism in age-related macular degeneration has been elusive. The published work proposes a hidden mechanism that was revealed using an integrative set of computational methods, including sequence, structure, dynamics, binding, electrostatics, and network analyses.
